  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (180°C). Grease and flour two 8-inch (20 cm) round cake pans.
  2. In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt. Set aside.
  3. In a large bowl, beat the softened butter and granulated sugar together until light and fluffy (about 3–5 minutes).
  4. Add the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition. Stir in the vanilla extract.
  5. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the butter mixture, alternating with the milk. Start and end with the dry ingredients. Mix until just combined.
  6. Divide the batter evenly between the prepared cake pans.
  7. Bake for 25–30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  8. Let the cakes cool in the pans for 10 minutes, then transfer them to wire racks to cool completely.
  9. Frost with your favorite frosting once the cakes are fully cool (optional).
