The Dark Triad comprises three socially aversive personality traits: Machiavellianism, Narcissism, and Psychopathy. These traits share common features, such as self-interest and disregard for othersβ well-being. Individuals with high scores tend to exploit and manipulate, increasing the likelihood of unethical or harmful actions in social, professional, or personal contexts.
- Machiavellianism (Machiavelli, 2021) (Machiavelli, 1998) involves manipulating and deceiving others for personal gain, characterized by strategic thinking, opportunism, and exploitation without regard for morality.
- Narcissism is marked by a grandiose sense of self-importance, empathy deficiency, and excessive admiration-seeking. Narcissists often exploit relationships to maintain their superiority.
- Psychopathy is associated with empathy absence, remorse, guilt, impulsivity, aggression, and disregard for othersβ rights. Psychopaths engage in antisocial behaviours without concern for harm.
